Design thinking and hands on learning techniques are being incorporated into mainstream education curriculum all around the world. The benefits of such teaching are revolutionizing the way students learn. This style of education is commonly found in makerspaces, a new type of classroom that uses a 100% student driven, project based approach. A fully functional makerspace isn’t required for your students start to benefiting from these techniques. It only requires trained educators like you to drive this revolution in education. IDIYA Labs delivers 21st century training for educators by combining cutting edge technologies with traditional skills. Our training program can empower you to drive students to create, invent, and learn new things that awaken their curiosity in a constructive way, and gain a greater appreciation for the value of learning.

Be part of the education revolution!

Not just another PD! What other teachers had to say:

“The training is moving my understanding to a new level, which is providing me with valuable skills to improve my craft as an educator.” - Ifey A.
“Just want to say thank you! I wake up every (day) excited about what we're going to get to do. It's an inspiring class that could have easily turned into "just another PD" but allowing freedom for creativity has really improved the investment.” - Christopher H.
“I have loved that we actually get to create. I feel like I am getting a much better understanding of how the technology works.” - Hilah B.
“So far, this training has met my expectations. It has provided a big picture view of CAD and opportunities for personal experimentation and learning with CAD software. The teacher has been open to conversations about how to relate/connect it to students in my classroom. “ - Crystal D.
“I got lots of ideas about how to access a makerspace lesson! I am highly satisfied about the training!”

The following is a comprehensive list of all the skills and technologies you will encounter during IDIYA Labs Summer training.

Introduce yourself to the maker movement and the history of making and invention. Challenge yourself with an initial maker project testing your creativity. Demonstrate improvement in your making and technological abilities through a capstone project at the end of the wee

Turn your ideas into reality through computer aided design software, or CAD. Use your computer to its full potential by sculpting digital objects with your mouse and keyboard. Geometry, art, and programming collide to create a new method of invention that is limited only by your imagination and willingness to solve problems. CAD is heavily used in manufacturing with nearly all products starting life as a digital model. Give your students the tools necessary to be successful in any industry.
Become an expert in 3D printing including printing methods, troubleshooting 3D prints, and integrating prints into already existing objects. Did you know there are over six different ways to 3D print objects? Learn to problem solve failing prints using the settings of the printer to improve print quality. Use more advanced 3D design techniques to create 3D models that can attach to real world objects. You will leave with the knowledge necessary to educate your students about the future of manufacturing
You will be designing and creating garments using traditional methods, but with a new-age twist! Learn how to measure, cut, and stitch fabrics, then take your fashion design to the next level by using our full-body 3D scanner to create a digital model of yourself. You can use our laser cutters to create custom patterns for various garments. Hand stitch or crochet electronics into your clothing for a truly unique style.

Building upon time tested techniques of an ancient skill, woodworking is being overhauled for the 21st century. Learn to use cutting edge tools (LOL) and machines that put a new spin on traditional woodworking skills. Make what you have always wanted, from a unique piece of furniture to an interesting art piece for display. Our Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine will allow you to turn a block of wood into a masterpiece

From 3D printing pens and popsicle sticks, to snap together electronics and LEGO’s, tinkering is better than ever. You will feel like a kid again with your creativity and inventiveness driving your ideas. Learn how to integrate creation into almost any lesson with our case studies of current teachers

Coding is the language that makes our modern world work. With an ever expanding job market for programmers and web designers, students who can code will always be in high demand. You will learn the basics of code with introductions to HTML and CSS, Javascript, and more. You’ll leave with a number of resources that will help to prepare you for coding in your classroom. Lead students down a path to success in the technological age.

From microwaves and coffeemakers to the Large Hadron Collider, knowledge of circuits and sensors is essential for all modern technology. You will be introduced to basic circuitry and sensors using microcontrollers. Apply Ohm’s law and draw circuit diagrams like a pro. Create circuits with a purpose and add functionality with programming. Learn how to turn everyday objects into internet enabled awesomeness. Your smart house is just a class away.

You will learn how to use one of the most exciting and multifunctional devices to be invented in the last 15 years, the Arduino microcontroller. Learn to code the Arduino using a language based on C/C++. You will become an expert with this device and learn how to best implement it as a tool in your classroom that will maximize the creative potential of your students. Read input and output from various circuits and have the Arduino make intelligent decisions. The Arduino microcontroller allows you to invent and prototype electronic devices the world has never seen.

Laser cutting is more than just precision cutting at it’s finest. You can create new clothing, custom signs, engraved cookies, or origami masterpieces. Demonstrate proper laser cutter operation through the creation of unique objects using a variety of materials. Laser cutters are one of hottest up and coming manufacturing techniques. Prepare your students with precisio

Throughout all of our lessons, you will work collaboratively to implement all of your new maker abilities in the classroom environment. With the support of experienced teachers who started a makerspace of their very own, you will better understand the solutions to classroom management concerns. Learn to setup, run, and integrate a makerspace into your school’s curriculum. Demonstrate best practices for classroom success through model teaching and student centered project creation. Learn sustainable techniques to optimize student achievement throughout the year. Create a plan for differentiated instruction to help students learn at a comfortable pace. You will be ready to use maker curriculum in your makerspace, regular classroom, or after school activity. You will be ready to revolutionize education!
